Non-leptonic B-decays, CP violation & the UT ∗

We study the implication of the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B → π + π − decays on the extraction of weak phases taking into account the precise measurement of sin 2β, obtained from the " gold-plated " mode B → J/ψKS. Predictions and uncertainties for the hadronic parameters are investigated in QCD factorization. Furthermore, independent theoretical and experimental tests of the factorization framework are briefly discussed. Finally, a model-independent bound on the unitarity triangle from CP violation in B → π + π − and B → J/ψKS is derived.

A search for direct CP violation in the non-leptonic decays of hyperons has been performed. In comparing the product of the decay parameters, α Ξ α Λ , in terms of an asymmetry parameter, A ΞΛ , between hyperons and anti-hyperons in the charged Ξ → Λπ and Λ → pπ decay sequence, we found no evidence of direct CP violations. The parameter A ΞΛ was measured to be 0.012 ± 0.014.
